Starting to Get the Hang of This Place

So since my last post I've been settling in more. Getting used to being in classes (although these ones are really easy) and now I switched my schedule so I have no classes on Fridays! yay! Last weekend I actually stayed and hung out in Thessaloniki, which is good cause it seems like I'm going to be going away on the weekends a lot since there's so much I want to see. It's crazy I've almost been here a month already! It went by sooo fast and that means I'm basically a quarter of the way through :/. So last weekend... Friday night we were going to try to go to the movies to see Valentine's Day, but there's no way for us to check the schedule besides actually going to the theater so when we got there it ended it up that the next one that night was at like 11 but the buses stop at midnight so we wouldn't have been able to go home :(. We ended up going to this "Mexican" restaurant. I didn't order anything cause I already had dinner but I did try some things and it was very strange. The enchiladas were basically lasagna and I don't know what the guacamole was but it was NOT avocados.
Saturday we went to the farmer's market of course. I love the market, tons of fresh fruits and veggies! It's still huge but getting slightly less overwhelming every time. We also found a smaller market closer to us to go to on Tuesday mornings before school. That one's really cute too because the sellers are starting to recognize us. It's so cool here because they give you different things to taste before you buy. And they're so friendly! I got a free bag of almonds on Tuesday too when I bought walnuts. I was looking at both of them and decided on the walnuts and then the guy was like "these are for you" and gave me the almonds. So I'll be going back there. We also found this cute little bakery around the corner with fresh loaves of bread. yum. The woman who runs it is really nice and is new to the neighborhood too. She always gives us stuff to try too.
Saturday night I went out with a couple girls (my usual gang it seems like) to a taverna (traditional greek restaurant) for dinner. We went to this one that always seems empty, but we'd heard it was really good. When we sat down we found out that the menu was all in Greek (usually there's an english one too or translation of some sort) and the cute older couple that ran it didn't really speak english that well. It still worked out though with hand motions and the woman bringing out random food from the kitchen to show us. We really wanted fried zucchini but we didn't know how to say that at all. Eventually we got it by sort of pointing to cucumbers and saying cooked. It was definitely a fun experience. The man's motions for frying were hilarious. The food was delicious and then at the end the woman brought us some complimentary red wine which I actually liked (I'm getting used to it) and with we Yamas-ed with her and it was super cute. Then this Indian guy came in with an English menu he made so we can come back in the future and was saying how nice they'd been to him and how hard it was for him when he first got there and didn't know Greek at all. We'll definitely be going back there!
Then Sunday we took a day trip to the waterfalls at Edessa about an hour and a half train ride away. It was such a nice day and the falls were awesome!

Amazing views and we even got to lay out and sunbathe for a while it was so warm in the sun!

That was last weekend. Hope you enjoyed it. I just love settling into routine. We have Thursday night movie nights regularly now and we want to cook dinner on Tuesday nights together. We made pita pizzas this Tuesday, so yummmmyyy.

This weekend I'm going on a school trip to Ioannina and Meteora which is some caves and a monastery. Look forward to hearing about that when I come back!
