Feeling at home

The past couple weeks since we went to Athens with the school have been nice because I haven't been traveling all over the place every weekend. It's nice to just enjoy Thessaloniki and feel at home (even though I only have a month left! eek!). Anyway, in case I haven't talked to you yet and you're worrying. Greece's economy is pretty bad right now and there have been some strikes and protests. Most of this happens in Athens though and it's never gotten violent here in Thessaloniki. So don't worry, I just hope there's not a strike on June 12th so I can't leave!

So last weekend there was a volunteering trip to a natural farm in Edessa (where I went before with the waterfalls). It was amazing. This is the guy that runs it and teaches people how to do reforestation projects all over the world even in the desert:

I just loved all of his philosophies and how he just let's nature do it's own thing instead of trying to control it and make it gross.
This is his farm which is really more like a jungle:

We made seed balls!

So we mixed up a whole bunch of seeds with clay and made them into balls. He just puts whatever seeds into it instead of over-analyzing it and then whatever grows grows. In some places they've just scattered the seed balls over the land using helicopters. I think this is just the coolest, best thing and I really want to have a mini natural farm of my own someday. The food we eat in general is just really gross because it's so far away from anything that grows or lives in nature and ideally I would like to only eat naturally but it's hard because I don't want to be a farmer and that's all.

This past weekend I went to the big Saturday market again for the first time in forever. I actually braved the fish section and bought fish for the first time here! I made salmon and it was delish! :)

Then Sunday I went to the beach! Pretty close to Thessaloniki there's an area called Halkidiki that looks like 3 fingers (it's 3 peninsula's off the coast) and it's full of amazing beaches. We went to the closest finger and it was only about an hour and a half bus ride away. It was perfect! The water is so blue and the weather here has been ridiculously nice lately.

jealous? And I'm climbing Mount Olympus this weekend to go visit Zeus! Yay!
